Location: New Zealand

Blyth Hut

blyth hut mount ruapehu new zealand

Blyth hut is an easy walk from all ages. The hut has ample bunks and is far enough off the round the mountain trail to visitors low.

Paparoa Track

paparoa track along the ridge line

Running the Paparoa track was the best way to get it done. Also the best way to run my first, and last, 50K.

The Footstool

climbing the tewaewae glacier at sunrise

The Footstool is a brilliant “small” peak near Mt Sefton. The remoteness of the peak was stunning despite it being in the hooker valley.

Hooker Valley Track

mount cook and the hooker river

Hooker valley track makes viewing Aoraki / Mount Cook, one of the world’s most infamous mountains, accessible to hikers of all skill levels.

Mount Ngāuruhoe

walking the summit ridge of mgāuruhoe

As a fan of Lord of the Rings, Mount Ngāuruhoe was a dream objective in New Zealand. Once was enough on the scree field though.

Heather Jock Hut

Heather Jock hut was not our first choice or second choice for the weekend. But I am glad we got to experience the sunset

Mount John Walkway

lake tekapo from mount john south summit

Mount John Walkway provides an easy-to-navigate route for viewing Lake Tekapō from above. Be sure to walk the full loop for the best views

Peak Hill

hikers descending peak hill's ridge line

Peak hill should have been a straightforward hike to the top of a small peak. A strong wind stopped that. Either way the view was worth it

Milford Track

clinton river valley from mckinnon pass

Milford Track is one of New Zealand’s most famed walking routes. The track is easy but the walk is stunning and worth the effort
